Abstract

An ethnomedicine approach in medicine will be able to discover new chemical compounds for drug development. Jati (Tectona grandis) is one of the plants that can be used as a medicinal plant. Compounds contained naturally in Jati make teak have antibacterial and antioxidant properties that can be utilized. This study used the literature review method, which began with a search related to some relevant literature regarding teak leaves' antioxidant and antibacterial properties (Tectona grandis). Data analysis used in reviewing includes: title, design, sample, intervention, instrument, and conclusion. The articles used amounted to 20 articles from 29 searches that have been done. Several articles examining antibacterial properties were tested on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus which showed significant results. Several articles that tested the antioxidant properties of teak leaves found that teak leaves have strong antioxidant properties. Compounds contained in teak leaf extract act as antibacterial and antioxidant, including flavonoids, saponins, tannins, steroids, and triterpenoids.
